Learning Objectives
- Name eight common classroom objects: pencil, book, chair, desk, backpack, eraser, ruler, crayon.
- Use "What is this? It's a ___." to identify objects.
- Use "Where is the ___? It's on/in/under the ___." with simple prepositions.
How to Use This Resource
- Presentation (8 min): Introduce each object word holding up the real object or a picture card. Students repeat chorally and individually.
- Practice (8 min): "What is this?" game — hold up an object, students answer "It's a ___."
- Prepositions (10 min): Model placing a pencil on/in/under a desk or bag: "Where is the pencil? It's on the desk." Students practise with their own objects in pairs.
- Production (10 min): Hand out the worksheet. Students label objects and complete the preposition sentences.
- Wrap-up (5 min): Pairs quiz each other: "What is this?"
Classroom Activity Ideas
- Hold up a pencil and ask "What is this?" Model: "It's a pencil." Repeat with one more familiar object.
Differentiation
Beginners: single-word naming only ("pencil"). Advanced students: full sentences with prepositions ("It's under the desk.").
Assessment
Informal: during Practice, listen for correct "It's a ___." answers. The worksheet checks written recognition; the Exit Ticket (in the Activity, Exit Ticket & Homework file) gives a quick formal check.
Teacher Tips
Use real objects, not just pictures, for the preposition practice — physically placing something on/in/under is far more memorable than describing it.
