How to Use This Resource

Read the story aloud as a class first, pausing to check understanding of key weather words, then have students read it a second time independently before answering the questions. Part A and Part B can be done individually or in pairs; Part C works best as independent writing, since it asks students to explain ideas in their own words rather than select an answer. Review answers as a class using the included answer key.

Classroom Activity Ideas

After finishing the questions, have students draw a simple three-panel comic strip showing the weather changing across the story (sunny and windy → stormy and rainy → hot and sunny again), labelling each panel with a weather word. This is a quick way to check comprehension visually for students who find writing full sentences challenging.

Differentiation

SUPPORT: Read the story aloud twice and allow students to underline the weather and season words as they listen before attempting the questions independently. Let students answer Part C with a short phrase rather than a full sentence if needed.
ON-LEVEL: Students read the story independently and complete all three parts in the suggested order.
CHALLENGE: Ask students to rewrite the ending of the story, describing what Nadia and Rizal do instead if the rain does not stop for the rest of the day.

Assessment

Collect the completed worksheet and mark it against the answer key. Part C is the most useful check of deeper understanding, since it requires students to go beyond matching words in the text to explaining an idea in their own words.

Teacher Tips

Before handing out the worksheet, ask students to predict from the title alone what kind of weather the story might need for kite-flying. This activates the target vocabulary (windy, sunny) before they even start reading, and makes the "uh oh, it looks stormy" turn in the story land better.
