Kindergarten ESL PowerPoint: All About Me Vocabulary (Family, Feelings & Body)

About This Resource

An 11-slide teaching PowerPoint that introduces the All About Me vocabulary — family, feelings, and body parts — through big pictures, short chants, and simple guided practice. Built to be projected (or printed as posters) while the teacher leads the class through greeting, vocabulary, practice, and a review game.

Overview

This PowerPoint walks a teacher through the full arc of introducing new vocabulary to Kindergarten ESL students: a title slide, a picture-supported learning-objectives slide, six vocabulary slides split into small, manageable groups (never more than four new words per slide), a "Point and Say" guided-practice slide with a chant, a sentence-frame speaking-practice slide, a quick picture-based review question, and a closing slide. Every slide leads with a picture rather than text, since most of this audience cannot yet read fluently in English.

Kindergarten 40-45 Minutes All About Me Vocabulary

Lesson Sequence

  • Project the PowerPoint during the vocabulary introduction stages of the All About Me Lesson Plan (Session 1 for the family slides, Session 2 for the feelings and body slides). Pause on each vocabulary slide to say each word clearly, twice, and have children repeat chorally before moving on. The "Point and Say" and speaking-practice slides work best with the teacher modelling the action or sentence first. The review slide is designed for a quick class vote (children point or call out) before revealing the star.

Classroom Activities

  • After the review slide, play a quick "Freeze and Show" game: call out a feeling or body part and have children freeze in a pose or face that shows it, then reveal the matching slide to check.

Teacher Tips

If you don't have a projector, print the vocabulary slides (pages 3–7 of the PDF) as A4 posters and stick them around the room — children can then get up and point to the poster that matches a word you call out, turning the same content into a movement activity.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to name family members, feelings, and body parts shown on each vocabulary slide.
  • Students will be able to follow a simple one-step spoken instruction ("Point to your nose").
  • Students will be able to complete the sentence frames "I am a ___" and "I have a ___" with a picture prompt.
  • Students will be able to identify the correct feeling word in a simple picture-choice review question.

Differentiation

SUPPORT: Slow down on each vocabulary slide and add a gesture or point to the real object/body part alongside the picture; allow a one-word answer instead of a full sentence on the speaking-practice slide.
ON-LEVEL: Follow the slide sequence as designed, including the sentence frames and review question.
CHALLENGE: Ask the student to add a describing word when using the sentence frames (e.g., "I have a small brother") or to explain why the correct answer on the review slide is correct.

Assessment

Watch for correct pointing, repetition, and sentence-frame completion during the vocabulary and practice slides, and record observations on the All About Me Grading Rubric.
