Unit 1 Vocabulary PowerPoint — Personal Identity & Communication
About This Resource
A 16-slide presentation introducing the core vocabulary students need to give their personal details and communicate in an English-medium classroom.
Overview
This slide deck presents Unit 1's core vocabulary in four organized groups — Personal Details, Classroom & Communication, Documents & Interaction, and Countries & Nationalities — followed by the unit's Key Language Patterns and a full vocabulary recap. Section-divider slides keep each group visually distinct, and every vocabulary item is paired with a plain-language definition rather than a translation, so students build genuine understanding rather than rote memorization.

Lesson Sequence
- Present the slides in order during Lesson 1 of the unit (see the Lesson Plan, Resource 11). Pause after each vocabulary group for choral repetition, and use the Key Language Patterns slides to model question-and-answer practice before students move to independent work in the Vocabulary Worksheet (Resource 3).
Classroom Activities
- After the partner-practice slide, extend it into a "find someone who" mixer: students stand and ask classmates the four practice questions, writing down one classmate's name per question, until they've spoken with at least four different partners.
Teacher Tips
Before presenting the Countries & Nationalities slide, ask students to guess which nationality word looks the most different from its country name (French, British) versus the most similar (Japanese, Canadian) — this small prediction task noticeably increases attention during the slide itself.
Learning Objectives
- Recognize and pronounce all 26 core vocabulary words introduced in this unit.
- Correctly match at least 8 of the 10 countries presented with their nationalities.
- Use at least three Key Language Patterns to ask and answer personal-information questions.
- Distinguish the four vocabulary groups (Personal Details, Classroom & Communication, Documents & Interaction, Countries & Nationalities) by function.
Differentiation
Provide a printed copy of the Vocabulary Planning Report's core word list so students can follow along and pre-read definitions before the slide reaches them.
Present the deck as designed, with full-class choral repetition and partner practice.
During the recap slide, ask advanced students to use three recap words in one original sentence aloud before moving on.
Assessment
This is a presentation resource and is not scored directly. Use informal choral-response accuracy during the presentation as a quick formative check, and confirm retention with Resource 3 (Vocabulary Worksheet) immediately afterward.
