Overview
This worksheet gives students their first structured practice dividing a two-digit number by a single-digit number, using the same "think of the multiplication fact" strategy introduced earlier in the unit. A worked example (48 ÷ 4) shows the full reasoning before students try it themselves. Every problem in Part A divides evenly — there are no remainders in this worksheet, since remainders are typically introduced in a later grade — which keeps the focus on the strategy itself rather than on a new concept. Part B applies the same thinking to two short word problems about sharing and grouping.

Student Task
- Introduce the worked example as a class, emphasising that every division question can be turned into a "what times this number gives me that number" question. Students then complete Part A, which gives them the "think" sentence structure to fill in for each problem. Part B removes that scaffold, so it works well as a partner task or an independent check once Part A is complete. Since this is the last skill in the unit, this worksheet also works well as a short review before the unit's quiz.
Classroom Use
- Division Detectives: Write a two-digit number on the board (for example, 42). In small groups, students find every single-digit number that divides it evenly and writes the matching division and multiplication fact for each one they find (42 ÷ 6 = 7, 6 × 7 = 42, and so on). Groups compare how many "clues" they found.
Differentiation
Support: Let students use a times table chart to search for the missing factor rather than recalling it from memory, and allow skip-counting on paper for the "think" step.
On-Level: Students complete all six Part A problems and both Part B word problems using the think-multiplication strategy.
Challenge: Ask students to write their own two-digit ÷ single-digit problem that divides evenly, solve it, and check their answer by multiplying the quotient back by the divisor.
Answer Key & Assessment
Review Part A to check whether students are using the multiplication connection or attempting to guess — the "think" blank in each box shows their reasoning, not just their final answer. Part B can be used as an independent exit task to confirm students can apply the strategy without the scaffolding.

Teacher Tips

This keeps the strategy connected to something they can act out rather than becoming a memorised trick.
