Grade 4 Daily Routines Unit Lesson Plan

About This Resource

A 2-page teacher lesson plan tying the whole Grade 4 Daily Routines topic together into one 5-day sequence — objectives, a day-by-day plan mapped to the actual resources in this topic, a common-trouble-spots guide covering the topic's three grammar points, a vocabulary and grammar quick-reference, and a print/prep checklist.

Overview

This is the connective document for the Grade 4 Daily Routines topic: instead of a teacher having to figure out the order and pacing of the PowerPoint, two worksheets, flashcards, reading activity, and review quiz on their own, this lesson plan lays out a full 5-day sequence (Introduce → Practice → Practice → Reading & Grammar → Apply & Assess) and explicitly sequences the topic's three grammar points in the order they should be introduced: Present Simple "-s" agreement (Day 1-2), sequencing connectors (Day 3), and frequency adverbs (Day 4) — each building on the last rather than all being introduced at once.

Grade 4 45-55 Minutes Lesson Plan Daily Routines

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to name and use all 6 morning routine words and 6 daily activity words correctly.
  • Students will be able to apply the third-person singular "-s" rule correctly across mixed-subject Present Simple sentences.
  • Students will be able to sequence a set of routine actions using First, Then, After that, and Finally.
  • Students will be able to use frequency adverbs (always, usually, sometimes, never) to describe personal routines.
  • Students will be able to score at least 16/20 on the cumulative Review Quiz.

Lesson Procedure

  • Read through once before starting the unit to see the full arc, then use the Lesson Sequence table as your daily plan and the Print & Prep checklist the day before you start teaching. The Common Trouble Spots table is worth reviewing right before Day 2 (the "-s" rule) and Day 4 (frequency adverbs), since those are the two grammar points most likely to produce lasting errors if not corrected early.

Differentiation

SUPPORT: Follow the unit-wide SUPPORT guidance in the lesson plan's Differentiation section (keep the Grammar Focus and Recap slides visible, sort Present Simple items into "-s"/"no -s" piles, pre-order sequencing connectors).
ON-LEVEL: Follows the 5-day sequence as written.
CHALLENGE: Layer in each worksheet's own Bonus/Challenge extensions, as listed in the Differentiation section.

Classroom Activity Ideas

  • On Day 5 before the quiz, do a rapid oral round where each student states one routine using all three grammar points at once (a frequency adverb + correct "-s" agreement + a sequencing connector), e.g., "First, she usually wakes up at seven o'clock."

Teacher Tips

This topic introduces three separate grammar points across one 5-day unit — a heavier grammar load than the Grade 2 topics carry. Resist the temptation to introduce frequency adverbs early "while you're at it" during the Day 1-2 grammar-focus work; the Reading Activity is specifically built to introduce them on Day 4, once "-s" agreement and sequencing are both already secure, so students aren't juggling three new rules simultaneously.
