Grade 4 Morning Routine Worksheet

About This Resource

A one-page worksheet practicing 6 morning routine actions through photo identification, riddles, and an 8-item Present Simple grammar exercise that drills the third-person singular "-s" rule (including when NOT to add it), plus a draw-and-label challenge.

Overview

Unlike the Grade 2 topics' worksheets, this worksheet's core grammar section (Part C) is not a vocabulary fill-in but a grammar-focused exercise: 8 sentences mix I/we/they subjects (no -s) with he/she subjects (+s), forcing students to apply the rule from the PowerPoint's Grammar Focus slide rather than just recognize vocabulary. This matches the Grade 4 step-up in complexity from Grade 2's simpler word-bank fill-ins.

Student Task

  • Use after the Vocabulary PowerPoint, once students have seen the Grammar Focus slide. Part A and B check vocabulary recognition; Part C is the grammar checkpoint and should be reviewed carefully as a class — it's the first place students apply the "-s" rule productively rather than just recognizing it in a model sentence.

Classroom Use

  • After reviewing Part C, have students swap one of their own correct sentences with a partner and identify which subject pronoun would require changing the verb form if the subject were swapped (e.g., changing "I wash" to "she washes").

Differentiation

SUPPORT: Complete Part C as a whole-class activity first, sorting the 8 sentences into an "add -s" pile and a "no -s" pile before writing anything, then allow the word bank from Part A to stay visible during Part B.
ON-LEVEL: Completes all parts independently.
CHALLENGE: For 3 items in Part C, add a time expression to the sentence (e.g., "He wakes up at seven o'clock every day") without changing the verb agreement.

Answer Key & Assessment

Score Part A and B out of 12 (6 photo IDs + 6 riddles). Score Part C out of 8 — this is the primary grammar checkpoint for the topic's Present Simple focus. Assess the Challenge qualitatively using the Grade 4 Daily Routines Unit Grading Rubric (once available).

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to identify and name 6 morning routine actions from real photographs.
  • Students will be able to correctly apply (and correctly withhold) the third-person singular "-s" ending across 8 Present Simple sentences with mixed subjects.
  • Students will be able to describe their own morning routine in a complete sentence.

Teacher Tips

Part C item 3 ("I ___ (wash) my face") and item 7 ("We ___ (wake) up early on Saturdays") are the two items most likely to be answered incorrectly with an added "-s" — students who over-apply the rule to every sentence, not just he/she/it, reveal that they've memorized "add -s" without the subject-agreement condition attached. Worth flagging explicitly during review.
