Grade 9 Personal Identity Vocabulary PowerPoint (20 Slides)

About This Resource

A 20-slide, teacher-ready PowerPoint that introduces 12 personality-trait words and the 8 parts of identity with original icon graphics, model sentences, a summary table, guided-practice riddles, and a review grid.

Overview

This presentation carries the direct-instruction portion of the Personal Identity unit. It opens by asking "Who are you, really?" and teaches all 12 personality-trait adjectives in pairs with a definition and an example sentence, then introduces an original "8 Parts of Identity" model (background, heritage, personality, values, interests, skills, goals, and relationships), each with its own icon and example. A summary table pulls every part of identity together, two guided-practice riddle slides let students apply the vocabulary before the answer is revealed, and the deck closes with a 12-word review grid, key takeaways, and next steps pointing to the worksheets that follow.

Grade 9 45-55 Minutes Personal Identity Vocabulary

Lesson Sequence

  • Project the presentation for whole-class direct instruction. Pause on each trait slide for students to think of a person (themselves or someone they know) who shows that trait, and use the riddle slides as a think-pair-share before revealing the answer. The deck leads directly into the Identity Vocabulary Worksheet and Identity Wheel Worksheet.

Classroom Activities

  • Identity Charades: call out a trait word and have a student act out a situation that shows that trait (miming staying calm after dropping something for "resilient") while classmates guess.

Teacher Tips

Before revealing the answer on either riddle slide, have students commit to a guess in writing or with a show of hands — committing first makes the reveal far more memorable than hearing the answer cold.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to describe their own personality using at least 8 identity-related adjectives.
  • Students will be able to identify and explain the different parts of personal identity (background, family, personality, values, interests, goals, and relationships).

Differentiation

Support: Repeat each new trait word two or three times and connect it to a simple gesture or facial expression. Pair English learners with a supportive partner for the riddle slides.
On-Level: Students follow the presentation as designed, discussing each trait and identity part as it appears.
Challenge: Ask advanced students to name a public figure or character who shows each trait, or to explain their riddle answer's reasoning to the class.

Assessment

Use thumbs up/down and quick verbal checks throughout the deck as an ongoing formative check. The two guided-practice riddle slides function as a short informal assessment of whether students can apply the vocabulary, not just recite it.
