Kindergarten ESL Grading Rubric: All About Me

About This Resource

A teacher-facing assessment rubric for the All About Me topic, covering vocabulary recognition, speaking, listening, and task completion. It's designed for informal, ongoing observation rather than a formal test, with a class tracking sheet so a teacher can record a quick level for every student across a few sessions.

Overview

This rubric gives teachers a consistent way to observe and record how Kindergarten ESL students are progressing through the All About Me topic. It defines four criteria that map directly onto what happens in the lesson plan and worksheets — recognising family, feelings, and body-part vocabulary; using simple sentence frames; following spoken instructions; and engaging with worksheet tasks — and describes what each of three performance levels (Meets Expectations, Developing, Needs Support) looks like in practice. A class tracking table lets a teacher record a level for every student without needing a separate sheet per child.

Kindergarten 45-55 Minutes Grading Rubric All About Me Vocabulary

How to Use This Resource

  • Keep this rubric on a clipboard during the All About Me lesson (see the matching Lesson Plan) and while students complete the This Is Me and My Family worksheets. Jot down a level (M / D / N) for each criterion as you observe it — you don't need to assess every student on every criterion in one sitting. Use the descriptions in each level's column as the standard for what you're listening and looking for, and refer to "Interpreting the Levels" if you're unsure which level a response fits.

What's Included

  • 2-page grading rubric (How to Use, Interpreting the Levels, 4-criteria assessment table, class tracking sheet for up to 14 students, Teacher's Notes)
  • Editable DOCX version
  • Print-ready PDF version
