Numbers — Vocabulary PowerPoint

About This Resource

A 28-slide whole-class lesson introducing numbers 1-20, with a warm-up, one dedicated slide per number, two review grids, a chant, and a preview of the unit's speaking activity.

Overview

The deck opens with a title slide and clear learning objectives, then warms students up with a quick "How many?" counting round. Each of the 20 main slides pairs a color-tinted background with a numeral, number word, and a counted cluster of objects, a model sentence ("There are seven stars."), a Count & Point prompt, and a Practice prompt for partner work. The deck closes with two review grids (1-10 and 11-20), a call-and-response chant, a preview of Resource 6's speaking dialogue, and a closing slide.

Grade 1 55 Minutes Vocabulary Counting

Lesson Sequence

  • Project the deck for a whole-class introduction lesson.
  • Use the warm-up slide to activate prior knowledge before teaching new numbers.
  • Pause on each number slide to model the sentence and complete the Count & Point and Practice prompts.
  • Close with the review grids and chant to reinforce all 20 numbers together.

Classroom Activities

  • Before moving to the next number slide, have students count ten seconds' worth of claps or taps together to physically feel the quantity being taught.

Teacher Tips

Do the chant slide again at the start of the next lesson as a quick warm-up review — revisiting it across multiple days (not just the day it's introduced) is what turns it into real recall rather than a one-time novelty.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to count and recognize each number from 1 to 20.
  • Students will be able to say and respond to "How many are there? / There are

Differentiation

Support: slow the pace to cover only 1-10 in a first lesson, saving 11-20 for a second sitting, and lean on gesture/pointing responses during Count & Point.

Extension: ask early finishers to add one more counted object of their own to each number's cluster during Practice time.

Assessment

Informal — use the Count & Point and Practice prompts on each slide as quick checks for understanding; no scored assessment is attached to this resource.
