Before any experiment, ask students to predict what will happen and why — even a wrong prediction is useful because it gives you something to compare against the real result. After the experiment, always come back to 'what did you notice?' and 'why do you think that happened?' rather than moving straight to the next activity.

Students ready for more can be asked to identify a pattern across multiple results (e.g., what do the floating objects have in common?) rather than just recording individual outcomes. Students needing more support can focus on accurately observing and describing one result at a time.
Assessment
Ask students to explain, in their own words, what happened in the experiment and why — a simple oral or drawn explanation shows whether they understood the underlying idea, rather than just having watched something interesting happen.
