"My Classroom" — Reading Passage & Comprehension

Learning Objectives

• Students will be able to read along with a simple illustrated passage naming all ten classroom objects.
• Students will be able to answer basic yes/no comprehension questions about details from the story.
• Students will be able to identify a described object from a set of pictures.

How to Use This Resource

• Read the passage aloud as a class first, pointing to each picture and word.
• Have students echo-read or choral-read the passage a second time.
• Move to the comprehension page and read each question aloud before students answer.
• Check answers together or with the included answer key.

Classroom Activity Ideas

• Turn the passage into a point-and-say routine: as you re-read it a third time, have students point to the matching real object in the room instead of the picture in the text.

Differentiation

Support: read each comprehension question aloud individually and let students respond by pointing or circling only. Extension: ask capable students to retell one line of the story in their own words, describing a different color for the object.

Assessment

The comprehension page can be collected and checked against the answer key as a formative reading-comprehension check.

Teacher Tips

Read the passage together at least twice before the comprehension page — the questions rely on specific details (an object's color, whether it is big or small) that are easy to miss on a single read-through at this level.
