Let's Learn Subtraction Within 20!
This lesson teaches Grade 1 learners what subtraction means and how to
solve subtraction problems within 20. We move through a full
concrete-to-abstract progression: starting with real objects (apples and
counters), connecting them to number sentences, introducing the number
line as a backward-counting tool, and finishing with three independent
practice rounds (guided practice, a strategy review, and a challenge
round) plus a real-life word problem. Vocabulary such as "subtract,"
"take away," "left," "minus," and "equals" is introduced and reinforced
throughout. Designed for Grade 1 students, ESL/EFL learners, teachers, and
parents supporting learning at home.
