Overview

This homework sheet is designed to be completed independently at home after regrouping has already been taught in class, so it opens with a worked reminder example before students begin. Part A gives a mix of subtraction problems, some requiring regrouping and some not, so students continue practising the habit of checking the ones digits first. Part B applies the skill to two short word problems. Send this homework sheet after a lesson where the written column method has already been practised in class, such as after the Practice Worksheet. No additional materials are required at home. Briefly remind students in class that the worked example at the top of the sheet shows exactly the method they should use, and let students know the note to families is there so they don't feel they need to explain their thinking in English if that is harder for them.
