Classroom Objects — Vocabulary Flashcards
About This Resource
A set of 20 print-and-cut flashcards — 10 picture cards and 10 matching word cards — covering the core Grade 1 classroom object vocabulary, from book and pencil to desk and board.
Overview
This flashcard set introduces the unit's ten target words: book, notebook, pencil, pen, eraser, ruler, school bag, desk, chair, and board. Each word gets a picture card (original artwork plus the word) and a word-only card, so teachers can use the same set for direct instruction, drilling, matching games, or a "grab and say" warm-up. A cover page explains what's included and how to use the cards, and a row of all ten icons previews the vocabulary at a glance.

How to Present
- Print the PDF and cut along the dashed lines (heavier cardstock works best).
- Use the picture cards to introduce and drill each new word.
- Mix picture and word cards face-down for a matching or memory game.
- Hold up a card and ask, "What is this?" — students answer in a full sentence.
Games & Speaking Activities
- Play "Flash and Find": hold up a picture card for two seconds, then hide it, and have students race to find and touch the matching real object somewhere in the classroom.
Teacher Tips
Laminate one set to keep at a listening/game center all year — Grade 1 flashcards get heavy daily use, and a laminated set survives far longer than plain paper.
Learning Objectives
- Students will be able to name all ten classroom objects when shown a picture.
- Students will be able to match each picture card to its correct word card.
- Students will be able to answer "What is this?" with "It is a ___." for any card shown.
Differentiation
Support: start with only 5 cards at a time (book, pencil, eraser, desk, chair) before introducing the rest. Extension: have students sort the cards into their own categories (things you write with, things you carry, classroom furniture) and explain their groupings.
Assessment
Hold up picture cards one at a time and have students say the word aloud; note which words a student hesitates on to guide review before moving to the grammar and speaking activities.
What's Included
