Grade 2 Daily Routines Flashcards (12 Cards)
About This Resource
A set of 12 large, print-ready flashcards covering the core Daily Routines vocabulary, each with an original icon and its matching word or phrase, designed for drilling, games, and pair work with Grade 2 English learners.
Overview
These flashcards give teachers a flexible, reusable tool for the whole Daily Routines topic. Each card pairs one original icon with its routine phrase (wake up, brush my teeth, wash my face, get dressed, eat breakfast, go to school, do my homework, play, eat dinner, take a bath, go to bed) in large, clear text, with a twelfth bonus card ("What time is it?") for time-related question practice. Dashed cut lines make trimming the cards straightforward, and the large card size means they are easy to see from across a classroom when used for board drills. The same icon set appears throughout the Daily Routines PowerPoint and worksheets, so students quickly build a strong picture-to-word association across every resource in the collection.

How to Present
- Print on card stock if possible and laminate for repeated use. Cut along the dashed lines to separate the cards. Use them to introduce vocabulary during the Daily Routines Lesson Plan (holding up each card as you present the matching PowerPoint slide), for quick board drills, for a matching or memory game, or as prompt cards during the Speaking Activity. A second printed set makes pair or small-group games possible.
Games & Speaking Activities
- Play "Flashcard Race": split the class into two teams and place one set of cards face-up on a table at the front. Say a phrase, and one student from each team races to slap the correct card. The team with the most correct cards at the end wins. This works well as a five-minute warm-up or review at the start of any lesson in this topic.
Teacher Tips
Keep a set of these cards on a board clip or magnetic strip within reach all week, not just during the introductory lesson. Being able to quickly hold up "eat breakfast" or "go to bed" as a visual cue during other parts of the day (attendance, transitions) gives students extra low-pressure exposure to the vocabulary.
Learning Objectives
- Students will be able to recognise 12 daily routine words and phrases from picture cues.
- Students will be able to say each daily routine phrase clearly when shown the matching card.
- Students will be able to use the cards to build and practise present simple sentences about their day.
Differentiation
SUPPORT: Keep the full set of cards visible on the board throughout independent work as a picture word bank for students who need a visual reminder.
ON-LEVEL: Use the cards for standard drilling, matching, and the Speaking Activity as described in the Lesson Plan.
CHALLENGE: Ask students to sort the cards into "morning," "afternoon," "evening," and "night" groups, or to put all 12 cards in the order of a typical day without looking at the Vocabulary Worksheet for reference.
Assessment
Use the cards for quick informal checks: hold one up and ask a student to say the phrase, or say a phrase and ask a student to point to the matching card. This gives a fast read on which words need more practice before moving to written work.
