Grade 2 My Favorite Foods and Drinks Flashcards
About This Resource
A set of 12 print-ready flashcards covering the full food and drink vocabulary for this topic, with a large picture and the word on every card, ready to cut out and reuse across the whole unit.
Overview
These flashcards support every other resource in the My Favorite Foods and Drinks topic. Each of the 12 target words — rice, noodles, chicken, fish, egg, bread, vegetables, mango, water, milk, juice, and tea — gets its own card with a clear picture and the word printed underneath, sized to be easily visible when a teacher holds one up to the class. The cards print six to a page across two pages, with light cut lines around each card.

Lesson Sequence
- Print one set on card stock if possible and cut along the lines. Use the full set for the Presentation and Guided Practice stages of the Lesson Plan: hold up a card and elicit the word, then move to "Do you like...?" drills once students recognise all 12 pictures confidently. Print one set per pair or small group for the paired flashcard drill described in the Lesson Plan, where students take turns asking and answering about each card.
Classroom Activities
- Play a simple "Slap the Card" review game: spread 6–8 cards face-up on a table or the floor, say a word, and have two students race to slap the correct card. This works well as a quick 5-minute review at the start of any lesson in this topic, not just the first one.
Teacher Tips
Laminate one class set if you plan to reuse this topic every year — the cards are simple enough to survive lamination without the text or pictures becoming hard to read, and a laminated set holds up much better to being handled by 20+ students across a school year than plain paper.
Learning Objectives
- Students will be able to recognise and say all 12 target food and drink words from a picture card.
- Students will be able to use the cards to ask and answer "Do you like...?" with a partner.
Differentiation
SUPPORT: Start with only 6 cards (either all food or all drink) rather than the full set of 12, adding the rest once the first half is secure.
ON-LEVEL: Use the full 12-card set for whole-class and paired practice.
CHALLENGE: Have students sort the full set into Food and Drink piles against the clock, or use the cards to build original sentences beyond "Do you like...?" (for example, "I eat rice every day").
Assessment
Use the cards informally to check recall — hold one up and note which students answer immediately versus which need extra thinking time. This is not a formal assessment, but it helps identify which words need more repetition before the Quiz.
