Grade 2 My Home Unit Lesson Plan
About This Resource
A 2-page teacher lesson plan tying the whole Grade 2 My Home topic together into one 5-day sequence — objectives, a day-by-day plan mapped to the actual resources in this topic, a common-trouble-spots guide, a vocabulary quick-reference, and a print/prep checklist.
Overview
This is the connective document for the Grade 2 My Home topic: instead of a teacher having to figure out the order and pacing of the PowerPoint, four worksheets, flashcards, and the review quiz on their own, this lesson plan lays out a full 5-day sequence (Introduce → Practice → Practice → Grammar → Apply & Assess), explains what each resource is for, and flags the specific confusions (sofa/television, "on" vs. "in" with the refrigerator, "next to" direction) that the topic's own worksheets were deliberately written to catch.

Learning Objectives
- Students will be able to name and use all 6 room words and 6 furniture words correctly.
- Students will be able to use "in," "on," "under," and "next to" to describe where something is.
- Students will be able to read a short connected passage using the topic vocabulary and answer comprehension questions about it.
- Students will be able to score at least 16/20 on the cumulative Review Quiz.
Lesson Procedure
- Read through once before starting the unit to see the full arc, then use the Lesson Sequence table as your daily plan and the Print & Prep checklist the day before you start teaching. Keep a printed copy handy during the unit — the Common Trouble Spots table is worth reviewing right before Day 3 (Furniture) and Day 4 (Prepositions), since that's where the two trickiest distinctions come up.
Assessment
This lesson plan doesn't introduce new graded content itself — it points to each worksheet's own answer key for fixed-answer scoring, to the My Home Review Quiz for the cumulative summative score, and to the My Home Unit Grading Rubric for every open-response item (Challenge questions and Draw & Label tasks).
Differentiation
SUPPORT: Follow the unit-wide SUPPORT guidance in the lesson plan's Differentiation section (keep the PowerPoint recap slide visible, reduced word banks, passage visible during quiz Part D).
ON-LEVEL: Follows the 5-day sequence as written.
CHALLENGE: Layer in each worksheet's own Bonus/Challenge extensions, as listed in the Differentiation section.
Classroom Activity Ideas
- Use the Reading Activity's whole-class retelling (built into Day 5, before the quiz) as a review activity in its own right — hearing "My House" retold room-by-room in students' own words is a strong final check before the summative assessment.
Teacher Tips
The Sofa/Television distinction (both live in the living room) is the single best signal in this topic of real understanding vs. memorization — a student who can explain "sofa is what you sit on, television is what you watch" instead of just naming the room has genuinely learned the vocabulary, not just the room association.
