Grade 2 Weather and Seasons Unit Lesson Plan (5-Day Sequence)
About This Resource
A ready-to-teach 5-day lesson plan that sequences all 13 resources in the Weather and Seasons topic, from the vocabulary PowerPoint through reading, writing, speaking, and final assessment.
Overview
This plan is the spine of the whole topic. Day 1 introduces weather vocabulary, Day 2 introduces the four seasons, Day 3 covers am/is/are grammar and hands-on games, Day 4 covers reading and guided writing, and Day 5 closes with speaking practice and the Review Quiz, with the Homework Pack and Unit Assessment assigned as a follow-up. Every resource in the topic is named in a Materials & Resources table along with its role in the unit, so a teacher can see the whole topic at a glance before teaching a single lesson.

Learning Objectives
- Students will be able to name eight weather words and use them in the sentence pattern "It is ___."
- Students will be able to name the four seasons and describe the weather in each one.
- Students will be able to match seasonal clothing and activities to the correct season.
- Students will be able to read, write, and speak short sentences about weather and seasons using topic vocabulary.
Lesson Procedure
- Read through once before starting the unit to see how every resource fits together, then use the Lesson Sequence table day by day as your teaching script. Adjust pacing if your class needs an extra lesson on any one stage.
Assessment
Formative checks happen throughout the week (worksheets, flashcards, activities); the plan closes with the Review Quiz on Day 5 and points to the Unit Assessment and Homework Pack as follow-up.
Differentiation
Support: Add an extra day between Day 2 and Day 3 for classes that need more time on season vocabulary before moving to grammar.
On-Level: Follow the 5-day sequence as written.
Challenge: Compress Days 1 and 2 into a single faster-paced day for classes that arrive with strong prior weather vocabulary, freeing an extra day for the writing and speaking activities.
Classroom Activity Ideas
- Use the Materials & Resources table as a checklist to prepare all worksheets, flashcards, and game materials for the whole week in one planning session.
Teacher Tips
Photocopy just the Lesson Sequence table (page 2) to keep on your desk during the week — it has everything you need day-to-day without re-reading the full plan each morning.
