Grade 3 Multiplication Facts and Arrays Quiz
About This Resource
A short, formal two-page quiz that checks Grade 3 students' understanding of arrays, multiplication facts, and word problem solving in about 20 minutes. It covers reading arrays, multiple choice fact questions, a fill-in-the-blank fact grid, and one word problem with space to show work.
Overview
This quiz is designed as the formal check-in for the Multiplication Facts and Arrays topic, pulling together the range of skills built across the lesson and practice worksheets into one focused assessment. Section A asks students to read an array and write its multiplication sentence, Section B checks fact recall through multiple choice, Section C is a quick fill-in-the-blank grid for further fact practice, and Section D presents one word problem with a boxed space for students to show their thinking. It's short enough to fit comfortably into a single class period alongside review time.

Question Types & Suggested Use
This quiz is itself a formal assessment. Mark it against the included answer key, and use a student's performance on Section D alongside the Grading Rubric's Problem Solving criterion for a more detailed picture of their reasoning.
Skills Assessed
- Students will be able to read an array and write its matching multiplication sentence.
- Students will be able to identify the correct product for a given multiplication fact.
- Students will be able to solve multiplication facts across the 2, 5, and 10 times tables.
- Students will be able to solve a word problem involving multiplication and show their work.
How to Administer
- Administer this quiz at the end of the Multiplication Facts and Arrays topic, after students have completed the Arrays Worksheet, Multiplication Facts Practice Worksheet, and Word Problem Worksheet. Allow around 20 minutes for students to complete it independently and in silence, as with any formal check. Collect completed quizzes and mark them against the included answer key, or use the Grading Rubric alongside Section D for a more detailed look at a student's problem-solving process.
Differentiation
SUPPORT: Allow extra time, and permit students to draw the array for Section A questions on scrap paper or with counters before writing the multiplication sentence on the quiz.
ON-LEVEL: Students complete all four sections independently within the standard time.
CHALLENGE: Ask students who finish early to write their own similar word problem in the space below Section D, along with the multiplication sentence and answer.
Follow-Up Activities
- Before administering the quiz, run a five-minute review game using the Multiplication Facts Flashcards, calling out facts for quick choral recall. This warms up fact fluency without giving away any of the quiz's specific questions.
Teacher Tips
Read Section D's word problem aloud to the whole class before students begin working independently, even though it's also written on the page. This ensures that any comprehension difficulty with the problem's wording doesn't get in the way of a student demonstrating what they actually know about multiplication.
