Grade 4 Fraction Flashcards: Halves, Thirds, and Quarters
About This Resource
A set of 12 print-and-cut flashcards mixing shaded-shape fraction recall, vocabulary questions, and fraction-of-a-group facts, with a matching answer key. Designed for quick drills, warm-ups, or peer-quizzing rather than a full worksheet sitting.
Overview
These flashcards give teachers a fast, flexible practice tool that doesn't require a full worksheet block. Six cards show a shaded shape (a mix of circles and bars split into halves, thirds, and quarters) with the prompt "What fraction is shaded?" for quick visual recall. Two cards ask vocabulary questions about the numerator and denominator. Four cards focus on fraction-of-a-group facts, two supported by a picture of the group and two as pure number recall, mirroring the mix of visual and abstract practice used across the rest of the topic. Cards are laid out six to a page with cut lines and a Teachluma footer, ready to print, laminate, and reuse.

How to Present
- Print and cut along the lines; laminating the cards makes them reusable across classes and years. Use them for a five-minute warm-up drill at the start of a lesson, as a quick formative check by holding up a card and cold-calling, or hand a small stack to pairs for peer-quizzing during a review session. The answer key table lets a teacher (or a student partner) check answers quickly without flipping through the cards themselves.
Games & Speaking Activities
- Play a simple relay: split the class into small teams, place a shuffled stack at the front, and have one student from each team run up, answer a card, and tag the next teammate — first team through their stack correctly wins, with the teacher or a team captain checking answers against the key.
Teacher Tips
Keep a set of these cards at a classroom station for early finishers or as a bell-ringer — because they need no worksheet or writing space, they're one of the easiest resources in this topic to slot into small pockets of spare time.
Learning Objectives
- Students will be able to identify a fraction from a shaded shape at a glance.
- Students will be able to recall the terms numerator and denominator and what each one means.
- Students will be able to find a fraction of a small group of objects, with and without a picture.
Differentiation
SUPPORT: Sort out the two vocabulary cards for a separate, shorter drill if numerator/denominator terminology is still new, and allow students to point to or describe an answer before writing or saying the fraction formally.
ON-LEVEL: Use the full set of 12 cards in mixed order for drills and games.
CHALLENGE: Time advanced students or pairs through the full set and challenge them to beat their previous time while keeping accuracy high, or have them write one additional card of their own to add to the set.
Assessment
Use as an informal, low-stakes formative check — note which card types (shape recall, vocabulary, or group facts) individual students consistently struggle with, and follow up with the matching worksheet activity from this topic.
