Overview

How to Use This Resource

Read the story aloud as a class or have students read it independently or with a partner, using the word bank at the top to preview key vocabulary first. The drawing extension works well as a quiet independent activity while the teacher checks other students' comprehension answers.

Classroom Activity Ideas

In pairs, have students retell the story from the river's point of view instead of Dara's, using the same four water cycle stages but describing how the water itself experiences each one.

Differentiation

Support: Read the story aloud with picture support for key vocabulary, and allow students to complete the vocabulary match orally with a partner before writing answers down.
On-level: Students read the story independently and complete all sections of the activity.
Challenge: Students rewrite one paragraph of the story from a different character's perspective (such as the river or the rice field), keeping the water cycle vocabulary accurate.

Assessment
