Kindergarten ESL Test: Greetings and Introductions — Paper and Speaking Check (20 Marks)

Question Types & Suggested Use

Paper 10 + speaking 10 = 20 marks. Bands: 18–20 Excellent, 14–17 Good, 9–13 Developing, 0–8 Needs Practice. The answer key explains 2 / 1 / 0 scoring for each speaking question.

How to Administer

• Give the paper to the whole class; read the Part A script from the answer key. While children colour or play Memory Match, call them one at a time for the 5-question speaking check (Part D) and record scores on the class record sheet.

Differentiation

Support: Use an action with every phrase, every time. Accept one-word answers first ("Mina.", "Happy.") and then model the full sentence for the child to repeat. Give each child a name card to copy. Pair a shy child with a confident buddy for the role play. Write the tracing words in yellow highlighter for children who need more help.
Extension: Teach "Good evening!" and "See you tomorrow!". Ask "How old are you?" – "I'm five." Let confident children lead the Hello Chant or play the teacher in Name Ball. Ask them to introduce a friend: "This is Ben."

Follow-Up Activities

• Do the speaking check as a friendly "meet the teacher" game with a puppet.
• Use the class record to group children for review: Developing and Needs Practice children join a small-group chant session.
