My Family — Unit Quiz / Assessment

About This Resource

A five-part, 12-item cumulative quiz covering vocabulary writing, word recognition, my/his possessives, true/false comprehension of the Mia's Family passage, and a counting question, with a full answer key and a built-in score box.

Overview

This quiz is the unit's summative assessment, drawing together every skill practiced across the collection: writing target words, recognizing words from pictures, choosing my or his correctly, judging true/false statements about the Mia's Family reading passage, and counting family members from that same passage. Every item is built around a picture or the shared reading passage rather than the student's own family, so the quiz never asks students to disclose or be graded on personal family information. A "Score: ___ / 12" box at the top makes it easy for teachers to record results at a glance.

Grade 1 35-45 Minutes Quiz

Learning Objectives

  • Students will demonstrate mastery of the unit's eight family words, the my/his possessive pattern, and basic comprehension of the Mia's Family reading passage.

How to Use This Resource

  • Administer after completing Resources 1-8, typically as the final activity of the unit.
  • Read the instructions for each part aloud before students begin that section.
  • Allow students to work independently.
  • Grade using the included answer key and record the score in the score box.

Differentiation

Support: read each quiz item aloud individually, or reduce Part 1's word-writing items to circling instead of writing.
Extension: have early finishers write one additional sentence using "This is my ___." about a family member not covered in the quiz.

Assessment

This resource is itself the unit's summative assessment; use the 12-point score to gauge overall unit mastery and identify students who may need additional support before moving to a new topic.

Teacher Tips

Read each part's instructions aloud one section at a time rather than all at once at the start — at this age, students retain multi-step directions much better when they're given right before that section begins.
