Kindergarten ESL (ages 5–6), pre-A1 30 minutes Vocabulary listening speaking matching drawing

Student Task

  • Sing "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" and act out each animal before children see the worksheet.
  • Say each picture name with the children, then do activities 1 to 4 together or in small groups.
  • Children draw their farm in activity 5 and tell a partner about it.

Classroom Use

  • Animal sounds game: the teacher makes an animal sound and children hold up or point to the right picture.
  • Farm walk: children move like the animal the teacher names (hop like a chicken, walk like a horse).
  • Who is hiding? Cover part of an animal picture and children guess the animal.

Differentiation

Support: teach four animals first (cow, pig, duck, sheep). Challenge: children say a full sentence about each animal, such as "The pig is pink."

Answer Key & Assessment

Activities 1 to 4 check vocabulary and sounds (answer key included). Listen to each child say one sentence about their farm drawing.

Learning Objectives

  • Name eight farm animals in English.
  • Match farm animals to the sounds they make.
