Learning Objectives

  • Understand and use the prepositions in, on and under.
  • Ask "Where is the …?" and answer "It's in/on/under the …".
  • Read and write simple sentences about where things are.

How to Use This Resource

  • Show the slides and act out each word with a box and a soft toy.
  • Play the flashcard game, then complete the worksheet together and in pairs.
  • Use the quiz to check learning and send the homework home; answers are in the answer keys.

Classroom Activity Ideas

  • Simon says with prepositions: "Put your pencil on your head." "Put your hand under your chair."
  • Where is the teddy? One child hides a teddy while the class closes their eyes, then the class asks and guesses.
  • Box and toy: a child places a toy and the class says the sentence together.

Differentiation

Support: use only in and on at first, and let children point or place objects instead of writing. Challenge: add next to and behind, and write three sentences about the classroom.

Assessment

The worksheet and quiz check understanding (answer keys included). Use the rubric while children place objects and say sentences.

Teacher Tips

Always use real objects first. Children remember in, on and under best when they move a toy themselves and say the sentence at the same time.
