Use this worksheet after Lesson 2 of the Lesson Plan, once students have seen the written method modelled at least once. It works well as independent practice following whole-class teaching, though the warm-up section can also be done together as a class check before students continue independently. Review the "Common Errors to Watch For While Grading" section in the answer key before marking, since it flags the most frequent regrouping mistakes at this stage.

Classroom Use

Error Hunt: write one correctly regrouped problem and one problem with a common regrouping mistake (such as forgetting to reduce the tens) on the board. Ask pairs to identify which is correct and explain what went wrong in the incorrect one.

Differentiation

SUPPORT: Reduce the number of required problems, allow continued use of base-10 blocks alongside the written method, and provide the sentence frame "I traded 1 ten for 10 ones because ___" for the reflection section.
ON-LEVEL: Complete all sections independently using the written method, referring to block pictures only where they are provided.
CHALLENGE: Complete the worksheet, then write one original subtraction problem of their own that requires regrouping and solve it, showing all steps.
