Grade 3 My House and Home Vocabulary Worksheet

About This Resource

A two-page vocabulary worksheet that gives Grade 3 English learners four varied ways to practise 12 words for rooms and furniture: picture matching, fill-in-the-blank sentences, sentence writing from pictures, and a personal draw-and-label task, finished with a simple self-check.

Overview

This worksheet moves students from recognising My House and Home vocabulary to using it in complete sentences. Activity 1 (Look and Match) checks that students can connect each icon to its word using a lettered word box of six rooms. Activity 2 (Fill in the Blanks) asks students to choose the correct word from a word bank to complete six short sentences about a house. Activity 3 (Look and Write) has students build a full "There is a ___ in the ___" sentence from a picture of a piece of furniture. Activity 4 (Draw and Label My Home) is a personal, open-ended task where students draw two rooms from their own home and write a simple sentence for each - giving the teacher a quick window into what vocabulary has really stuck. A Self-Check section closes the worksheet so students reflect on their own progress.

Grade 3 45-55 Minutes Vocabulary

Student Task

  • Hand out after the vocabulary has been introduced with the My House and Home Vocabulary PowerPoint and Flashcards. Complete Activity 1 together as a class first (as suggested in the companion Lesson Plan) to confirm students understand the matching format, then let students complete Activities 2 and 3 independently or in pairs. Activity 4 works well as an early-finisher task or as homework, since students can take their time drawing. Use the Self-Check section as a quick informal reflection before collecting the worksheets.

Classroom Use

  • Turn Activity 1 into a movement warm-up before students write anything: hold up each flashcard one at a time and have students call out the matching letter from the word box as fast as they can. This builds speed and confidence before the quieter, written matching task.

Differentiation

SUPPORT: Allow students to say the matching answers aloud to a partner or teacher before writing, and reduce Activity 2 to the first three sentences if six is overwhelming. Keep the Vocabulary PowerPoint or Flashcards visible for reference.
ON-LEVEL: Students complete all four activities independently within a normal lesson period.
CHALLENGE: Ask students to write one extra sentence of their own for Activity 2 using a word not already used, or to add a third drawing to Activity 4.

Answer Key & Assessment

Collect the completed worksheet and use the answer key to check Activities 1-3. Review Activity 4 for correct use of the target sentence structure ("There is a ___ in my house.") rather than for spelling perfection, since this is a first attempt at independent writing on the topic.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to match 6 room pictures to their written words.
  • Students will be able to complete sentences about a house using a word bank.
  • Students will be able to write a complete "There is a ___ in the ___" sentence from a picture prompt.
  • Students will be able to describe two rooms of their own home in simple written sentences.

Teacher Tips

Read the six Fill in the Blanks sentences aloud before students begin, even though the words are provided in a word bank. Hearing the full sentence helps English learners predict which word fits by meaning, not just by matching letters on the page.
