Use this worksheet after students are already comfortable naming fractions from a picture, since it assumes that skill and focuses on computation fluency instead. It works well as timed independent practice — Activity 2's grid in particular is well suited to a short, timed fluency drill. Activity 3 is worth reviewing together as a class afterward, since talking through why a false statement is false is often more valuable than simply marking it wrong. Activity 4 is a good stretch task for students who finish early or as a small-group follow-up.

Classroom Use

Turn the true-or-false section into a stand-up/sit-down game: read each statement aloud, students stand for true and stay seated for false, and ask a few students each round to explain their choice — this keeps the whole class engaged rather than only the students who finish writing first.

Differentiation

SUPPORT: Allow students to draw or circle groups of objects on scrap paper to physically divide the group before writing the answer, and reduce Activity 2 to every other row if the full grid is overwhelming.
ON-LEVEL: Students complete all four activities in the order given, moving from pictured groups to the pure-number grid to reasoning to the extra challenge.
