Animals — Vocabulary & Sounds Pack

Learning Objectives

• Name ten common animals: cat, dog, cow, duck, pig, bird, lion, monkey, fish, elephant.
• Match each animal to the sound it makes, using "A ___ says ___."
• Use the pattern "I see a ___." to identify animals in a picture.

How to Use This Resource

• Presentation (8 min): Introduce each animal word with its sound: "A cat says meow." Students repeat both the animal name and the sound.
• Practice (10 min): Play an animal-sound guessing game: make a sound, students say the animal name; then reverse it — say an animal, students make the sound.
• Sentence pattern (7 min): Model "I see a dog." pointing at a picture or toy. Students practise the pattern in pairs with different animals.
• Production (10 min): Hand out the worksheet. Students match animals to sounds and complete the "I see a ___" sentences.
• Wrap-up (5 min): Quick chorus round: teacher says an animal, whole class makes the sound together.

Classroom Activity Ideas

• Make an animal sound (e.g. "moo") and ask "What animal is this?" Let students guess, building excitement before the lesson starts.

Differentiation

Beginners: focus on sounds and single-word naming only. Advanced students: add a describing word, e.g. "I see a big elephant."

Assessment

Listen for correct animal-sound matching during the guessing game; check the worksheet matching and sentence-completion sections for written accuracy.
