Grade 2 My Home Vocabulary PowerPoint

About This Resource

A 19-slide introduction to 12 "My Home" vocabulary words — six rooms (bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room, dining room, garden) and six furniture items (bed, sofa, table, refrigerator, bathtub, television) — each shown with a large real photograph and a simple model sentence.

Overview

This PowerPoint opens the Grade 2 My Home topic with real, full-size photographs rather than icons, so students see what each room and object actually looks like before using the words themselves. Each vocabulary slide follows the same simple pattern: a large photo, the word, and one short model sentence using the word in context (e.g. "I sleep in my bedroom."). The deck is organized in two clear sections — Rooms, then Furniture — with a vocabulary recap and a partner-talk discussion slide at the end.

Grade 2 45-55 Minutes My Home Vocabulary

Lesson Sequence

  • Project the PowerPoint as the opening lesson of the My Home topic. Read each model sentence aloud and have students repeat it chorally before moving to the next word. Pause after the Rooms section and again after the Furniture section to do a quick round of "point to something in the photo" comprehension checks. Use the Quick Check slide for a 1-2 minute partner-talk before moving to the Rooms or Furniture Vocabulary Worksheet.

Classroom Activities

  • After the Quick Check slide, do a "home scavenger hunt" for early finishers: give students 2 minutes to whisper to a partner the names of as many rooms and furniture pieces as they can remember from the deck, without looking back at the slides.

Teacher Tips

Because every image is a real photograph rather than an icon, use them for a quick "same or different" comparison with your own classroom or students' homes — e.g. "Is your kitchen the same color as this one?" This kind of real-world comparison question is a fast, low-prep way to check comprehension beyond rote repetition.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to name the six rooms of a home: bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room, dining room, and garden.
  • Students will be able to name six common pieces of furniture: bed, sofa, table, refrigerator, bathtub, and television.
  • Students will be able to say a simple sentence using each vocabulary word in context.

Differentiation

SUPPORT: Point to each item in the photo as you say its name before asking students to repeat it; keep the recap slide visible during later independent work.
ON-LEVEL: Repeats each model sentence chorally and completes the Quick Check partner-talk unprompted.
CHALLENGE: After each slide's model sentence, ask the student to produce one additional original sentence using the same word.

Assessment

This is an introductory resource and is not scored. Use informal observation during choral repetition and the Quick Check partner-talk to note which students can already produce a vocabulary word or model sentence unprompted.
