Grade 2 Weather and Seasons Vocabulary PowerPoint (18 Slides)
About This Resource
An 18-slide, teacher-ready PowerPoint that introduces all 8 weather words and the 4 seasons with original icon graphics, model sentences, a seasons-and-clothes comparison table, two guided-practice riddles with answers in the speaker notes, and a review slide.
Overview
This presentation carries the direct-instruction portion of the Weather and Seasons unit. It opens with the question pattern “What's the weather like today?”, teaches all 8 weather words in pairs with a supporting icon and example sentence, then moves to “What season is it?” and covers each of the 4 seasons with its typical weather, clothing, and a seasonal activity. A comparison table pulls the seasons, weather, and clothing together, two guided-practice riddle slides give students a chance to apply the vocabulary (answers are in the speaker notes so the teacher can guide discussion), and the deck closes with a 12-word review grid, key takeaways, and next steps pointing to the worksheets that follow.

Lesson Sequence
- Project the presentation for whole-class direct instruction. Pause on each weather or season slide for choral repetition, and use the riddle slides as a think-pair-share before revealing the answer in the speaker notes. The deck is designed to lead directly into the Weather Vocabulary Worksheet and Four Seasons Worksheet.
Classroom Activities
- Weather and Season Charades: call out a vocabulary word and have students act it out with their bodies (shivering for cold, fanning themselves for hot, pretending to plant seeds for spring) before moving to the next slide.
Teacher Tips
Before revealing the answer on either riddle slide, have students vote with a thumbs up/down or write their guess on a mini whiteboard — committing to a guess first makes the reveal far more memorable than hearing the answer cold.
Learning Objectives
- Students will be able to name eight weather words and use them in the sentence pattern "It is ___."
- Students will be able to name the four seasons and describe the weather in each one.
Differentiation
Support: Repeat each new word two or three times and point to the icon while saying it. Pair English learners with a supportive partner for the riddle slides.
On-Level: Students follow the presentation as designed, participating in choral repetition and the riddles.
Challenge: Ask advanced students to add one more detail about a season before the teacher reveals the slide's own list, or to explain their riddle answer's reasoning to the class.
