Grade 2 What Are You Wearing? Worksheet

About This Resource

A one-page grammar worksheet teaching color words and the "am/is/are + wearing" sentence pattern using the My Clothes vocabulary already learned — 8 fill-in-the-blank sentences, 4 real-photo color-description questions, and a personal draw-and-write task.

Overview

This worksheet is the grammar companion to the My Clothes vocabulary resources — it takes the clothing words students already know and teaches them to describe what someone is wearing using correct subject-verb agreement ("I am," "she is," "they are") together with color adjectives. Part A drills am/is/are with different subjects. Part B has students look at 4 real photographs and write a sentence naming the item's actual color, checked against the real photos. Part C is a personal, self-directed task connecting the grammar pattern to the student's own life.

Grade 2 40-55 Minutes Grammar Clothes

Student Task

  • Students will be able to correctly use "am," "is," or "are" with "wearing" depending on the subject.
  • Students will be able to name 8 basic colors.
  • Students will be able to write a sentence correctly describing a real photograph's color.
  • Students will be able to write a personal sentence about what they are wearing today.

Classroom Use

  • After completing Part B, have a few students stand up and say a sentence about what a classmate is wearing, practicing "he/she is wearing..." out loud before the personal writing task in Part C.

Differentiation

SUPPORT: Complete Part A only, with the am/is/are Word Bank visible throughout; complete Part B together as a class.
ON-LEVEL: Completes Parts A, B, and C independently.
CHALLENGE: Writes 2 additional Part C-style sentences about two classmates' clothing, using "he" and "she" correctly.

Answer Key & Assessment

Score Part A and Part B out of 12 (8 am/is/are + 4 color sentences). Assess Part C qualitatively for correct use of a color and a clothing word in a complete sentence.

Teacher Tips

Part A's subject variety (I / she / they / he / we / you) is deliberate — many students master "I am" and "she is" quickly but still default to "is" for plural subjects like "they" and "we." Watch items 3, 5, and 6 specifically for that pattern.
