Grade 9 Personal Identity Unit Assessment (25 Points, with Answer Key)

About This Resource

A comprehensive 2-page, 25-point summative test covering trait definitions, "used to" grammar, parts of identity, synonyms, a short writing response, and a bonus section — with a full answer key.

Overview

This cumulative assessment closes out the Personal Identity unit. Part A matches trait words to definitions using a genuine matching format, Parts B-D check grammar, identity-part vocabulary, and synonyms with entirely fresh wording (not copied from the practice worksheets), Part E asks for a short written response about which part of the student's own identity matters most right now, and a Part F bonus connects traits to real-life situations where they help.

Grade 9 55-60 Minutes Assessment Personal Identity

Question Types & Suggested Use

This is the unit's summative assessment. Parts A-D and the bonus are scored against the fixed answer key (20 of 25 points); Part E is best scored with the Grading Rubric.

Skills Assessed

  • Students will be able to describe their own personality using at least 8 identity-related adjectives.
  • Students will be able to identify and explain the different parts of personal identity (background, family, personality, values, interests, goals, and relationships).
  • Students will be able to use "used to" and the present simple to compare their past and current selves.
  • Students will be able to read, write, and speak about personal identity topics using unit vocabulary in complete sentences.

How to Administer

  • Use at the end of the unit, after the Review Quiz and the Reading, Writing, and Speaking activities. Part E can be scored with the Grade 9 Personal Identity Unit Grading Rubric for a more detailed, criteria-based grade.

Differentiation

Support: Allow extra time, and permit students to reference their completed Identity Vocabulary and Then and Now Worksheets while completing Parts A and B if your assessment policy allows open-note review.
On-Level: Complete independently within a single class period.
Challenge: For Part E, ask students to add a second reason for their answer, connected to a different part of identity than their first reason.

Follow-Up Activities

  • Before the test, run a quick class review game using the Activity Pack's bingo board covering all 12 trait words being assessed.

Teacher Tips

Score Parts A-D and the bonus quickly against the answer key first, then come back to Part E separately with the Grading Rubric — mixing a fixed-answer key with an open-response rubric in one pass tends to slow marking down.
