Learning Objectives

  • Use this and that for one thing near and far, and these and those for more than one.
  • Ask and answer "What's this/that?" and "What are these/those?"
  • Use is with this and that, and are with these and those.

How to Use This Resource

  • Hold a pencil and point to the door: "This is a pencil. That is a door." Teach the four words with hand actions and the slides.
  • Play the point-and-say game with the flashcards, then complete the worksheet together and in pairs.
  • Use the quiz to check learning and send the show-and-tell homework; answers are in the answer keys.

Classroom Activity Ideas

  • Point and say: put objects near you and far away around the room; children point and say the sentence.
  • Mystery bag: a child takes something from a bag and the class asks "What's this?"
  • Window watch: look out of the window and say what you see with that and those.

Differentiation

The worksheet and quiz check choosing the right word and using is or are (answer keys included). Use the rubric during the point-and-say game.
