Student Task

Teach the lesson with the slides and the lesson plan; base-ten blocks or drawings help a lot.
Use the worksheet for guided and independent practice in class.

Classroom Use

Regrouping with blocks: students show 100 + 100 as 10 tens and trade ten ones for a ten.
Error hunt: show a worked sum with one mistake and ask students to find and fix it.
Make your own: pairs write a story problem for a 3-digit sum and swap with another pair.

Differentiation

Support: use base-ten blocks and problems without regrouping first. Challenge: give three-step word problems and ask students to make up their own.
