Greetings and Introductions — Vocabulary Flashcards

About This Resource

20 print-and-cut flashcards (10 picture cards + 10 matching word cards) teaching ten core greetings and introductions, from hello to good night, all acted out by one consistent child character.

Overview

This set introduces the core vocabulary for the whole Greetings and Introductions unit. Each of the ten greetings gets a picture flashcard showing the same child character performing the action (waving, holding a nametag, shaking hands with a new friend) and a matching word-only card for drilling and matching games once the pictures are familiar.

Grade 1 35-45 Minutes Vocabulary Greetings & Introductions

How to Present

  • Cut out the cards along the dashed lines.
  • Use the picture cards to introduce and drill the ten greetings.
  • Mix picture and word cards together for a matching game.
  • Hold up a card and have students say the greeting aloud.

Games & Speaking Activities

  • Lay the ten picture cards face-up in a circle and have students walk around the circle, stopping on a card and saying that greeting aloud to a partner before moving on.

Teacher Tips

Introduce the cards in a natural conversation order the first time through (hello, what's your name, nice to meet you, goodbye) rather than shuffled — a familiar exchange gives students an easy memory hook before they see the cards mixed up in later activities.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to recognize and say ten core greetings and introductions in English from a picture cue alone.

Differentiation

Support: start with only the four most familiar greetings (hello, goodbye, good morning, good night) before introducing the question-and-response pairs.

Extension: have students sort the cards into "things you say" and "things you ask" groups as a preview of the question-word grammar taught later in the unit.

What's Included

  • 1 PDF file (5 pages: cover + 2 picture card pages + 2 word card pages)
