Magic E! Long Vowels with Silent E

About This Resource

A free Grade 2 ESL phonics worksheet pack on long vowels with silent e: how adding e changes cap to cape and kit to kite, reading and sorting short and long vowel words, choosing the right word for each picture and finishing sentences. Includes a timed lesson plan, worksheet, editable Word version and answer key.

Overview

Children learn that a silent e at the end of a word makes the vowel say its name. Cap becomes cape, kit becomes kite, hop becomes hope and cub becomes cube. They read word pairs, choose the word that matches each picture, sort short and long vowel words, and use silent e words to complete sentences.
