Unit 1 Lesson Plan — Personal Identity & Communication

About This Resource

A five-lesson teaching sequence mapping all eleven other Unit 1 resources into approximately 225 minutes of class time, with timing, procedure, differentiation, and assessment guidance for each lesson.

Overview

This plan sequences the entire unit into five roughly 45-minute lessons: vocabulary introduction, grammar focus, reading and writing, speaking and listening, and finally review and quiz. Each lesson includes numbered learning objectives, a materials list, a minute-by-minute procedure table, a three-tier differentiation table (Support/On-Level/Challenge), an assessment note, and a homework note — giving a teacher everything needed to deliver the unit without additional planning.

Grade 6 60 Minutes Lesson Plan Personal Identity Communication

Learning Objectives

  • Deliver a complete, coherent five-lesson sequence covering all four language strands (vocabulary, grammar, reading/writing, speaking/listening) plus review and assessment.
  • Correctly sequence all ten teaching resources (Resources 1–10) into appropriate lessons based on skill dependency.
  • Apply three-tier differentiation consistently across every lesson in the unit.

Lesson Procedure

  • Read the "How to Use This Lesson Plan" section first, then follow the five lessons in order across the unit, substituting the specific resources referenced at each step (Resources 1–10). Adjust timings to match actual class length using the pacing guidance in the Teacher's Guide (Resource 12) if needed.

Assessment

Each lesson specifies its own Assessment / Evidence of Learning note, ranging from informal circulation and formative worksheet checks (Lessons 1–4) to the formal Quiz (Resource 10) in Lesson 5. This resource does not itself require scoring.

Differentiation

**Support:** Each lesson's Differentiation table includes a Support-tier strategy tailored to that lesson's specific activities (for example, providing reference tables during independent grammar practice).

**On-Level:** Each lesson is written to be delivered as planned for an on-level class without modification.

**Challenge:** Each lesson's Differentiation table includes a Challenge-tier extension tailored to that lesson's specific activities (for example, writing original sentences using Extension Vocabulary).

Teacher Tips

Read through an entire lesson's procedure column once, start to finish, before teaching it — the timings are additive and assume smooth transitions between activities, so knowing the full shape of the lesson in advance (rather than discovering the next step as you go) is what keeps a 45-minute lesson from running short or long.
