Lesson Sequence

Display the presentation on a screen or interactive whiteboard as you teach. Use the Learning Objectives slide to set expectations at the start of the lesson, then move through the vocabulary and worked-example slides at a pace that matches your class, pausing to ask questions rather than reading through quickly. The Teacher Model slide is written as a script — read it aloud with the class, or invite a confident student to play the "student" role. Use the Guided Practice slide as a checkpoint before moving students to independent work, and the closing Review slide to check understanding informally before wrapping up.

Classroom Activities

After the Guided Practice slide, have students work in pairs with counters to build the same two arrays shown on screen, then challenge them to build a third array of their own choosing and share the multiplication sentence with a neighbouring pair.

Teacher Tips

When you get to the "Multiplication Is Repeated Addition" slide, resist moving on too quickly — this is the slide that does the most work in connecting a concept students may already sense intuitively (equal groups) to the more abstract idea of multiplication. A slower pace here often pays off for the rest of the topic.

Differentiation

SUPPORT: Pause on the "Reading an Array" and "Rows and Columns" slides for longer, and have students point to and count the rows and columns themselves as you display the array, rather than only watching.
ON-LEVEL: Follow the presentation at its designed pace, participating fully in the Teacher Model and Guided Practice slides.
CHALLENGE: During the Guided Practice slide, ask early finishers to also write the multiplication sentence in the reverse order (for example, both 3 × 4 and 4 × 3) and explain why both give the same product.

Assessment
